Description

Hempaprime Strength 530 is a self-priming, hi-build modified epoxy coating which cures to an abrasion and corrosion resistant coating. Suitable for early water exposure and will continue to cure under water. The product is available in versions with and without glass flakes.

PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

Recommended use

Hempaprime Strength 530 is recommended as a heavy-duty coating for aggressive corrosive climate such as splash zones or for permanent immersion. The product can also be used as a self-priming, surface tolerant coat and a finishing coat in heavy-duty coating system.

Service temperature

  • Maximum, dry exposure only: 120°C [248°F].
  • Maximum, in water (peak): 50°C [122°F].

  • Meets requirements to NORSOK M-501 when used as part of a predefined paint system. Edition 7, System 7A, 7B.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Cleanliness

  • Remove oil, grease and other contaminants by suitable detergent cleaning.
  • Remove salts, detergents and other contaminants by high pressure fresh water cleaning.

New build

  • Abrasive blasting to min. Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1) / SP 10 (SSPC).
  • Remove dust, blast media and loose materials.

Maintenance and Repair

  • Spot abrasive blasting to min. PSa 2 (ISO 8501-2) / SP 6 (SSPC).
  • Minor areas can be cleaned by power tool to St 3 provided the surface is roughened and not polished.
  • Water jetting to min. Wa 2 (ISO 8501-4).
  • Flash rust degree of maximum FR M (ISO 8501-4).
  • Remove dust, blast media and loose materials.

Overcoating details

  • If the maximum overcoating interval is exceeded, roughening of the surface is necessary to ensure intercoat adhesion.

OTHER REMARKS

  • Epoxy coatings have an inherent tendency of chalking, fading and discolouring. This does not affect the performance of the coating.
  • Hempel’s Specification supersedes any recommendations given in the Product Data Sheets.
